PHYSIOTHERAPY:

Physical Therapy helps patients maximize their functional level and promotes wellness through improved strength, flexibility, quality of movement and decreased pain. Our physiotherapists accurately assess the client’s impairments and develop a treatment plan that addresses their condition. Acute treatment utilizing modalities (manual therapy techniques, ultrasound, TENS interferential current) followed by aggressive stretching and exercising programs are provided in our fully equipped clinical facility. Services include:

Physiotherapy Assessment - Our comprehensive assessments include a review of your medical history, subjective information on your injury/impairment, objective strength, mobility and range of motion testing, and pain questionnaires. Detailed reports are provided to your physician and other health care professionals, if necessary.

Vestibular Rehabilitation - Vestibular rehabilitation is a specific individualized exercise-based program designed to promote the brain’s compensation for inner ear deficits. It can help with a variety of vestibular problems like the reduced inner ear function associated with conditions such as labyrinthitis and vestibular neuritis or mechanical dysfunctions like benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) where specific manoeuvres are performed to correct this problem.

Individuals with long-term unresolved inner ear disorders and balance concerns who have undergone a period of medical management with little or no success may also benefit.

Vestibular treatment can be beneficial following an acute or abrupt loss of vestibular function after surgery or injury. The balance retraining component is effective for patients who don’t necessarily have a vestibular problem, but have orthopaedic or central disorders, multiple sclerosis, proprioceptive problems, or vision changes affecting their equilibrium.

Vestibular disorders can come from pathologies in any area of this complex system.

They can be gradual or due to factors such motor vehicle accidents, injuries to the head, falls, contact sports, medications, infections, brain-related problems, aging, or secondary to other diseases or trauma.

Pursuit Health Management has physiotherapists who are specifically trained to assess and manage vestibular and balance issues.

Functional Restoration Programs - Functional restoration is an individualized rehabilitation program designed to prepare the client to return to their pre-accident/injury status. The structured program including physical conditioning and education addresses the individual’s recovery needs. This program is available in our clinic, at the client’s home or a community based gym.

Work Conditioning Program – A structured program (clinic or community) designed to increase an individual’s tolerance for the physical and cognitive demands associated with a return to work. Through strengthening exercises or replication of actual duties, the client regains the necessary strength and stamina to return to pre-accident employment with appropriate aids/devices or job modifications.

Pain Management - Our therapists are aware of the debilitating impact pain can have on an individual’s recovery. Specialized programs are designed to create an awareness of pain and strategies on how to minimize its’ effects.

Aquatic Therapy –
Our warm water aquatic therapy program enhances recovery for clients with musculoskeletal, orthopedic and neurological impairments. Specific aquatic exercises tailored to your impairment, ensures enhanced recovery time.
